Hi Mike I’m currently studying Shake, Toxik, FCP as well as the madatory Background Fundamentals this term. I was a bit unsure at first what to expect and if it would be worthwhile. Well its been 6 weeks now and I can honestly say its been worth every penny and keeps getting better, the class structure is well thought out and what tends to happen is the profs will get into a particular subject and it might throw up a new problem/workaround so they’ll make another extra mini class to explain it or just extend the lesson. Where they can they provide materials so you can work through the lesson they even supply a fully working VPN version of Shake to work with. The forums are one of the major pluses and what set it apart from just buying a training DVD.

The Deans are usually there to put questions to directly, Mikes in Australia and Johns in America and the profs are split between oz and the states so somebody is nearly always around, and the students are really helpful because of the broad range of experience they have. We’re set regular challenges, the first having just finished and the second has just been set.

I wont go into details about it but I will say thats its a very obvious task and one ive not seen tackled anywhere on the t’internet. I’m a traditional animator and enrolled to extend my current skillset.

The 101 courses are great for me as I’m a newb to compositing, though some of the early classes were a bit frustrating for the experienced users as they already knew the basics, but they were able to go into the forums and ask the deans/profs to ramp up the pacing and they did. The only problem Ive had so far was having to choose just 3 classes, but I’m really glad with the choices I made, and if you think ‘wouldn’t it be great to have a class in’ the Deans/Profs are always open to ideas for future classes. So to re-cap is it worth it absolutely of course this is my personal opinion.

This has been the best training investment I have ever made! I have learned a great deal over the last six weeks and it just keeps getting better and better! I am really looking forward to the next term!

I bought the dynamics dvd and thought it was great. Hope to see you next term! One thing to remember before joining is, you need access to the hardware and in some cases the software.

Based on that, you may be limited in what you can take (ie. No access to Smoke, or say even a Mac). I’m currently borrowing a Mac from a friend while he’s on vacation a couple weeks to do Shake and FCP training. I’ll probably get a dual core mac mini for the rest of the classes when my friend gets back. They use VPN licensing for some of the software and give download links to demo/trial versions for some of the other software. For the VPN licensed software, you can use it while you are still enrolled That’s a bonus (like getting access to labs after hours at a school). They have great footage for you to use in some classes, while others you may need to buy a book (Shake 4).

They are supposidly working with Apple to help you work towards an Apple certification in some of the classes. Another bonus. Btw, taking Shake, AFX and FCP here. ' STEP FOUR: Pick your classes You’re good to go, all you need to do now is pick your classes. As you’rer now a paid student - all you need to do is select your 3 courses for this term.

You are automatically enrolled in one course “Background Fundamentals” - and you can choose 3 others for a total of about 2 hours of training downloads a week. Bit torrent Finally if you have never used bittorrent before - you’ll need to download a free bittorrent application. When new material is released, you’ll be emailed the bit torrent control file (which is a very small file).
